Description

The CDS Written Examination is conducted by UPSC twice every year for graduates to fill the vacancies in the following institutions of the Indian Armed Forces.

How To Apply For CDS / OTA Examination

The Notification for the CDS written exam is issued in the months of November and July. UPSC holds the exam in the months of Feb and October. Students can apply for the CDS and OTA written examination online only on UPSC website.

Eligibility For CDS Written Examination

Academically: Qualified or demonstrative (final year) applicants may appear for the CDS written examination. For Air Force and Navy, applicants must have Engineering / Physics and Mathematics subjects. Please see the notice for more information. For OTA, Graduates and final-year students can apply.
Age: 19 to 2 years from the date of joining the IMA. For OTAs, the age on the date of registration must be between 19 and 25 years.
Gender: Both males and females are eligible to appear for the OTA exam.

Exam Pattern of CSS / OTA Written Examination

The CDS written exam consists of three tasks.
  1. General knowledge – 100 points.
  2. English – 100 points.
  3. Mathematics – 100 points.

All three assignments in the CDS written exam are administered on the same day and each assignment lasts two hours. Each task of the CDS written test is worth 100 points and the total score of the CDS written test is 300 points.

The OTA written exam includes only two of the tasks listed above;

  1. General knowledge – 100 points.
  2. English – 100 points. , OTA candidates are exempted from Maths. The remaining two tasks of the OTA written test are worth 100 points each, and the overall score of the OTA written test is 200 points.

Requirements

  • Graduates – qualified or appearing (final year) are eligible to sit for the CDS written exam. For Air Force and Navy candidates must have engineering /physics and mathematics subjects.
  • Age: 19 to 24 years on the date of joining IMA
  • For OTA – Graduates and final-year students can apply.
  • Age: Must be between 19 to 25 years on the date of joining.
  • Gender: Both males and females can apply for the OTA examination.
